NORDHAUSEN '15 TAKES HOME 220 LB. TITLE AND 100TH WIN IN MIAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
2/10/2014

This past weekend, varsity wrestling placed 5th in the MIAA Championships at Mount Saint Joseph, with many Dons making it to the championship round of their respective weight classes. One of the closest matches in the championship was won by junior Jake Nordhausen in double overtime in a major upset against McDonogh's Mike Smith to become the 220 lb. MIAA Champion, while also capturing his 100th career win.

In addition to some very impressive individual performances, the entire team walked away with the MIAA Sportsmanship Award, voted on by the referees.

Congratulations to the entire team on an outstanding and hard-fought season.

WRESTLING SEASON PREVIEW
11/13/2013

Last year, Varsity Wrestling enjoyed another successful season on the mat, finishing with a 17-6 record with victories over Gilman, Mt. St. Joe's, Boys' Latin, St. Paul’s and Calvert Hall for the 7th straight year.

At the MIAA tournament,  Loyola placed nine individual wrestlers in different weight classes. At the Maryland Independent State Tournament, Loyola placed five winners. At the prestigious National Prep Tournament at Lehigh University, Loyola brought home one All American – Conan Schuster '13 – who placed 5th for his second-straight All-American season.

Also of note, both Conan Schuster and David Mohler '13 shattered the Loyola All-Time wins record. Conan finished his career with 148 career wins and David finished with 147.

This year, Head Coach Steve Truitt expects continued success returning eight starters from last year’s team, including standouts Jake Nordhausen '15 and Walter Johnson '14.
